My good eater

Ryden is such a good eater.  I'm pretty sure that the kid will eat anything I put in front of him.  Green beans, peas, carrots, corn, cauliflower, broccoli, eats it all no big deal.  He eats fruit too, but that's the easy stuff.  Last night he chowed down on asparagus, I'm pretty sure that he ate more than the rest of the family combined (Harper and Nate didn't eat ANY).

Which brings me to Harper.  Why can't she just sit down and eat a meal instead of snacking all day.  I really need to make sure that we have healthy snacks in the fridge and cupboards so even when she doesn't eat meals she's filling up on good stuff.

To the park!

It should NOT be 62° on February 26 and yet it is.  I thoroughly enjoy this weather, but I like winter too.  Snow days where we can put some chili in the crock pot, bake something, and stay inside watching a movie without feeling guilty that we're not outside enjoying the nice weather.

We went to the park today to enjoy the nice weather.  I had discovered a new part of the 'sand park' that has swings (yay!) but it didn't really have much else in that part besides the swings.  Its the best park to go to though because its within walking distance and the only other thing close enough is a play area with a couple swings and a big ride toy.  Also, since we made a snowman, anytime Harper finds a stick she has to pick it up 'this is perfect for a snowman!'  We found some sticks on the walk to the park.

So, Harper and Ryden swang for awhile then Harper decided she had to potty.  Too bad the Parks and Rec Department didn't get the memo that it has been unseasonably warm all winter and the bathrooms were locked, because its supposed to be COLD in February.  So, like a champ she popped a squat at the park.  Classy, I know.  While she was peeing in the trees, we found some snail shells.  She gets so excited about everything, I love it and I know that someday she won't want anything to do with us.  If she could just stop growing up now, I think we've hit a good age :)

Some alligator

Harper is always in need of 'someping'.  Usually its something to eat or something to drink.
"I want someping to eat"  - This is typically said in a really whiny voice.
"You have supper right in front of you." - This is not an uncommon situation when she asks for something to eat.
Sometimes she's a little more specific about what she wants.  Digging in the refrigerator for 'someping' the other day she told me she wanted some alligator - huh? - Oh, some Gatorade, which was actually Powerade but same difference.

The girl is crazy.

A snowman named Reindeer

Last week it snowed 2 inches here.  It's the end of February and so far this winter we have had 2 inches of snow.  So, I had been promising Harper that we would make a snowman when we went to Grandma and Grandpa's house but as we got closer I was getting worried when there was hardly any snow and we were only an hour away.  But as promised, there was still a significant amount of snow, definitely enough to make a snowman.

Saturday morning we all (Grandma, Jana, me, Elsie, Ryden and of course Harper) headed out to make a snowman.  The snow didn't stick.  Let's try sledding instead.  Harper went down about two times before she decided that sledding was too scary.  Trying to convince her to go inside without making a snowman was pretty tough too.  Eventually though, with the promise of going out later to make a snowman, she gave in.

Later, we made good on our promise and made a snowman.  Good thing Scott showed up because the snowman ended up being huge and I'm weak.  Harper got to put a carrot for the nose, very important.  Scott had some nontraditional snowman accessories to try out, and our snowman was named 'Reindeer' (very clever with the names).  Harper also gave sledding another try.  This time with mom and Uncle Scott, it was less scary with a grown-up.

Reindeer without his antlers.  Harper was so happy about her snowman.

"He's still kuping"

The kids and I spent our 4 day weekend at Grandma and Grandpa's house.  Saturday night, I went to investigate a baby noise and heard Ryden vomiting.  When I entered the room he was crawling around in a vomit covered bed, in vomit covered pajamas, with vomit soaked hair . . . still vomiting.  Babies should not be allowed to get sick.  I don't know what age children should be able to get sick, but they need to understand that if they're vomiting a bowl or toilet or some type of container is the way to go.

After he got a bath and new pajamas, he continued to vomit until he fell asleep.  Harper was all concerned, mainly that I couldn't hold her because I was busy taking care of Ryden.  "He's still kuping" - close but not quite - puking is the word you're looking for.

We hung out in the living room for awhile while Ryden slept, I sort of slept and Harper watched TV.  Being the smart mommy that I am, I decided to nurse him when he woke up.  Fifteen minutes later he was throwing up milk.  3 AM rolls around and he wakes up again.  I was NOT going to risk feeding the kid anything, but he was pretty persistent and ended up getting what he wanted and how much he wanted (my plan was to let him nurse a little).  He knew he could handle it though because we were good after that.

Everyone survived Ryden's first flu/food/whatever it was.  Thanks to Grandma for helping clean up all the vomit mess.  Hopefully no one will be 'kuping' for a long time.

Time for bed

I had conferences tonight and again tomorrow night.  Coming home so late with Ryden already in bed is strange.

I miss him.  Pretty sure that this is the only time I will ever want him to wake up :)  When he's tired and half asleep he's so snugly

So, off to bed.  Hoping Harper goes to sleep easy and stays that way and Ryden will wake up so I can get in some hugs and kisses.

Crab Rangoon Meltdown

I'm trying to make more of an effort NOT to eat out.  I say this all the time and then we eat out.  Last night I made orange chicken. (Tonight we got Little Caesars, you win some you choose to eat out others)

It was pretty delicious.  Harper, however, decided that she didn't like it before a bite went into her mouth.  I dished her a plate turned around and she was standing there with an empty plate.  "I don't like it.  I threw it in the trash."  That was the end of her supper.

She thought she should still get a crab rangoon though.  When we said no because she threw her food away and didn't eat anything else, she was a little upset.

She did eventually eat something and got her crab rangoon.

The rest of the night proceeded in about the same fashion though.  Harper wanted cereal for a snack.  But not in the blue bowl!  We decided that she could have a couple bites before she went to bed after that meltdown.  Harper wanted to take the cereal to bed!
